○ University of Arizona’s youngest professor : Sohn Young-joon (BA ‘96) graduated from Pennsylvania State University in four years and was appointed as the youngest professor at the University of Arizona in 2000. He was promoted to full-time professor at the age of 36 and is currently the head of the department. Professor Son has published more than 100 papers in world-renowned journals and academic journals, and is dedicated to research and education in diverse fields such as Manufacturing Systems, Systems Design Methodologies, and Human Decision Making.

○ 1st POSTECH Professor from POSTECH alumni : Kim Byung-In (BA ‘91, MA ‘94), who majored in logistics and optimization applications, received his Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the United States and served as an assistant professor at Memphis University. In 2005, he was appointed as the 1st. POSTECH professor who graduated from POSTECH.

○ Professor of Tsinghua University in China : Choi Phil-sung (MA ‘95) received his Ph.D. from Purdue University and became an associate professor of Industrial Engineering at Tsinghua University, China. This was a notable achievement because Korean-national professors are rarely appointed at the most prestigious university in China.

○ Domestic University Professor : Park Woo-jin (BA ‘95, MA ‘97) received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and was appointed as an assistant professor at Cincinnati University and Auburn University. In September 2011 he was appointed as an assistant professor of Industrial Engineering at Seoul National University. Kim Bae-ho (BA ‘03, graduated first in his class) graduated from Stanford University in 2003 and appointed as an assistant professor at Korea University in April, 2010. Hwang Hak-Jin (BA ‘91, MA ‘93, PhD ‘98) serves as a full-time professor at the Department of Business Administration at Kyunghee University through the faculty appointment of Chosun University and the work experience at Hyundai Information Technology. He has received numerous paper awards for his active research activities and has published excellent papers in top journals such as Operations Research. Kim Duk-young(BA ‘98, MA ‘00) was appointed as a professor at UNIST in September 2010 after receiving his Ph.D. from EPFL in Switzerland. Lee Kang-Bok (BS ‘98, MS ‘00, PhD ‘04) worked at LG Engineering & Technology Institute and was appointed as an assistant professor of New Jersey State University, City University of New York (CUNY), and York College and as an associate professor at POSTECH, as of July 2016. Song Min-seok (BA ‘99, MA ‘01, PhD ‘06) was appointed as an associate professor at POSTECH in February 2016, after completion of the Research Fellow program at the Eindhoven Univ. of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands and the appointment as an associate professor of Department of Business Administration at UNIST.

○ 1st laboratory venture … 1st place in the market: : Hyeon Seok-jin (BA ‘95, MA ‘97), the president of the software company CyberDime, covers corporate solutions such as Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) and Knowledge Management System (KMS) developed by Prof. Choi In Jun. CyberDime is the first company as a laboratory venture. Upon its listing on the KOSDAQ in 2009, it has the largest domestic market share including foreign products in the EDMS market, and KMS has the largest share of domestic products. The company has about 100 employees.

○ A pioneer in the Korean security market : Lee Seok-woo (BA ‘91, MA ‘93), CEO of Penta Security System Co., Ltd, is regarded as a pioneer in the Korean security market. The company is one of Korea’s leading security solution companies and has been recognized in the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Intrusion Detection System (IDS) fields for its world-class technology. Moreover, he was the first POSTECH graduate to be the director of POSTECH (from August 2007 to August 2011) and contributed to the development of POSTECH.

○ New Concept for Social Commerce : Park Byeong-yeol (BA ‘11) established and manages a website called ‘Hello Nature’ at the end of 2011 to supply fresh and affordable agricultural, marine, and livestock products to consumers. The business was selected as a business incubation program sponsored by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, and has also been introduced in various media outlets such as SBS and Korea Economy as a company that pioneered a new concept of social commerce that enables consumers and producers to communicate with each other by applying a real-name system, and a disclosure of the use of pesticide or fertilizer, rather than simply selling products.

○ Kim Dong-suk (BA ‘91, MA ‘93, PhD ‘97) is an executive director of UX center in Samsung Electronics DMC Research Center, and Kim Young-ho (BA ‘92, MA ‘94) is a global partner (senior managing director) in IBM Global Business Service (GBS) Smarter Commerce. Choi Hyun-ah (BA ‘93, MA ‘95) is a senior vice president of Singapore branch of Towers Watson, a global consulting firm, with work experience at POSCO Management Institute, Singapore Quality Productivity Center, and McKinsey. Jung Ji-soo (MS ‘01, PhD ‘06) was accepted as a technical public officer for Ministry of Construction & Transportation at the age of 27 in 2006, the youngest of the candidates. With work experience at National Science & Technology Commission, Jung now works for the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning responsible for policy research on each technological field and support for the national policy R&D centers.
